TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question:  Choose Your Next Read: How do you go about choosing what you read next? Do you have a schedule you follow, or do you read whatever makes you happy at the moment? I do keep a schedule to track when review posts are due so I DO schedule some of my reads. I consider review post dates to be flexible (unless I’ve committed to an author/publisher) and if a book doesn’t feel like the right read at the time, I’ll push back the review date.  I’ve found that I get stabby and have a miserable reading experience […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question Back to School Reading: Which books would you like to see in today’s high school literature classrooms? What a GREAT topic to discuss!  First, a rant: <rant>WHY must schools insist on teaching boring classics? (Yes, I’m talking to YOU, The Scarlet Letter.) There are SO MANY amazing news books that are inspiring and incredibly written. I understand the need to know about the classics, and there are some that I love dearly (Anne of Green Gables, Pride & Prejudice, and anything by Tennyson and Shakespeare). But I think young people need to *love* reading. Take my […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question:  Pimp Your Review: Feature a favorite book review you’ve written in the past that you feel deserves more love!  It’s been a blast going back and reading some of the reviews I’ve written over the last 15 months. Some made me giggle and others made me cringe so badly I wanted to take them down. Why do I have to be such a nerd, y’all? I’ve chosen my review of FORGOTTON by Cat Patrick for this week’s question. It’s one of the reviews I read in preparation for this question and thought, “Huh. That one’s not so […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question:  Unexpected Books: Which books did you have reservations about reading, but ended up loving once you did? Two of my favorite books come to mind when reading this question. They are both books that I *almost* didn’t read at all because I had reservations of some sort against them.   The first of these is Sherman Alexie’s THE ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN. Sure, it’s critically acclaimed. Sure, it looks like a short read. But it looked like it’d be boring. And too political for my taste. Well, guess what? It was neither of these […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question:  Reading Blues: We all get them from time to time. What helps you overcome those reading slumps when nothing seems to grab your attention? Oh, ouch.  This one hits a little close to home for me right now.  I am JUST coming out of a four week reading slump. Poor Amy must be wondering why the heck she even has a blog partner.  Sorry, love.  I’m on a comeback. I think before I can answer what helped me get out of this slump, I have to address WHY I hit a slump.   To state to obvious: […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question:   Book Blogger Influences: Has there been a particular book blogger who’s influenced what you read? Share with us a review/book blog that convinced you to pick up a certain book. Short Answer:  There are too many to mention! Long Answer:  I actually think the only reason people read our blog is because we modeled it after some amazing ones!  But honestly, I rely on blogger’s and reviewer’s reviews all the time!  Maybe even too much, because I rarely will pick up a book that I haven’t heard about from a friend.  This makes our reviews a little […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question: Social Networking: Do you use Twitter or Facebook to promote your blog? How has it benefited your book blogging experience? If not, how do you promote your blog? This is how I feel about Twitter. I think Twitter is the best thing that has happened to the book world.  Following authors and bloggers was my soul purpose for joining Twitter, and one of the main inspirations for starting this blog.  Jen was the other inspiration, because it was her idea to begin with. (Note: This means Jen can also take the blame as well as the […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question: Book Moments: What has been your favorite moment (scene) in a book that you’ve read so far in 2012? Please be kind & not include spoilers. I’ve finished 15 books this year and I could name something I love about each and every one of them. I won’t do that, but I do want to mention a few of my favorite things: My favorite quotes have come from UNEARTHLY by Cynthia Hand. Some are humorous. Some are heart melting. All of them make me want to reread this beautiful book again. My favorite love scene comes from […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question: Book Blogger Pride: What do you take pride in when it comes to blogging? I love this question because this blog is my baby! (And I have the best co-parent ever in Jen!) I know, it’s sorta funny, and maybe I have my priorities mixed up, but I consider this blog one of my biggest accomplishments. I am SO proud of it! I baby it all the time, try to clean it up, try to give it love and attention… I mean, look at it? It’s deliciously adorable! Blogging, for me, has been a creative outlet […]

TGIF is a weekly feature hosted by GReads! to re-cap the week’s posts & to propose a question for followers. This week’s question: Love Stories: What are some of your favorite fictional love stories. I’m in love with love stories.  There are approximately 192 love stories that I consider my favorite, but I’ve managed to narrow it down to three for this post: 1. A GIRL AND HER MUSE: My favorite fictional love story of all time involves Matt Bellamy and, well, me. The scene when he gives me a private concert and then spends quality time with me on the beach, after dark, is a thing of beauty. I go back and revisit that scene every Saturday night. 2. […]
