Candy Box Confession: The Inability to Say Goodbye

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE to reflect on the books I’ve read throughout the year when we start rolling into December territory. One of the things that really struck me this year is the number of series that I haven’t yet finished, even though THEY are finished. What’s up with that?  And I’m not talking about your everyday, run of the mill kind of series. No. I’m talking about series that I love and anxiously waited to hit my local bookstore.  Books that I cancelled social engagements for just so I could read them.  So, why didn’t I see them through to the end?  That question is easily answered. I hate saying goodbye. But […]

We are happy to be participating in the “TOP 10 of 2013 A week of looking back… and looking forward” feature, hosted by Mindy @ Magical Urban Fantasy Reads, Rachel @ Fiktshun & Jaime @ Two Chicks on Books. We’re kicking off the week by discussing a favorite topic of late: TOP 10 Books Read in 2013   I was silly enough to believe that this would be an easy list to put together this year.  There were some books that were so freaking good that I couldn’t fall sleep for days without thinking back on them.  I just didn’t realize there were about 20 of those books. Man, it’s tough being a book nerd, huh? […]

BEA & CITY OF BONES Party Recap and Movie Giveaway!

BEA & CITY OF BONES Party Recap and Movie Giveaway!

Posted July 14, 2013 by jenniferstrand in giveaway, Uncategorized / 0 Comments

I had the fantastic opportunity in late May to go to the ultra fabulous Book Heaven that is BEA – BookExpo America – in New York City.  BEA is the largest annual book trade fair in the United States, according to Wikipedia, and is filled with publishers, booksellers, librarians, and authors, all set on learning from eachother, conducting business, sharing the latest in publishing trends and upcoming titles, and, of course, throwing parties! I was at BEA for work (support your local indie bookstore, yo!), and therefore not very interesting.  However, I was invited to attend the Simon & Schuster CITY OF BONES/CASSANDRA CLARE party!  The night of the party, I donned my Old Hollywood outfit, pinned […]

JACE IS CAST!

JACE IS CAST!

Jamie Campbell Bower in The Prisoner (2009) In total buzzworthy news that deserves its own post, the role of Jace from the beloved Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare HAS BEEN CAST!  Jamie Campbell Bower (King Arthur on Starz, among other credits) is officially Jace Wayland.  And, holy moly, has some really smelly stuff been hitting the fan ever since!  Now, I am usually very open-minded when it comes to casting.  I was excited that Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Katniss (which THIS Entertainment Weekly covers proves was the right decision!) and I was all for Robert Pattinson as Edward and Taylor Lautner staying on as Jacob Black.  But this?  A very slight-built British actor chosen […]
