Truest Silas Hart has seriously shaken up Westlin Beck's small-town life. Brand-new to town, Silas is different from the guys in Green Lake. He's curious, poetic, philosophical, maddening—and really, really cute. But Silas has a sister—and she has a secret. And West has a boyfriend. And life in Green Lake is about to change forever. Truest is a stunning, addictive debut. Romantic, fun, tender, and satisfying, it asks as many questions as it answers. Fictitious Delicious Rating:

There’s going to be a LOT of excitement in this review because I freaking loved this book! The first fist pump goes out to Jackie herself–Minnesota represent! I love learning about local authors and really hope I have the chance to meet Jackie sometime soon. Plus, the story itself takes place in Minnesota. About 90 minutes from where I live. It is SO MUCH easier to get there than to Forks, WA, to make a pilgrimage to book places I love.
Which leads me to fist pump number dos. I laughed at loud at a number of scenese/lines that sound like they came straight from the mind of Twihard. Not the 49.99999 shades of light black sounding lines. GAWD NO. I’m talking about references to Silas being a vampire. The Alaska connection. A family secret. And, you know, his Edward Cullen shirt. I’m probably reading way more into this than I should but I felt a certain fondness for these perceived shout outs to a story I still love.
Fist pump three comes with a bit of a frowny face. See, this book is full of emotion. I laughed my figurative butt off in the first third, fell in love during the middle and then punched myself in the face to try to make myself feel better during those last chapters. You will FEEL all the things while experiencing Westlin Beck’s story.
A fist pump, a high five and big thumbs up for the characters in this book. Contemporary stories rely heavily on character development and TRUEST is no exception. West is still recognizable at the end of the story, but she has matured through the incredible summer we live with her. Don’t even get me started on my new book boyfriend, Silas. Silas is…complicated. He carries an enormous weight on his shoulders and manages it with humor. Until he can’t. That’s where you see the depth of his psyche and how swoon worthy he is even when he’s not hilarious. Laurel will have you questioning your own existence. Literally. There are a whole slew of secondary characters that play important roles in this story and each one of them even feel like different characters before the story is over. (My heart gets all a flutter thinking about West’s relationship with her father!) And Elliot. Sweet, sweet Elliot. Kudos to Sommers for making Elliot a lovable character. Sommers made his relationship with West complicated because of West. That’s hard to do without making the reader angry and Sommers nailed it.
Whew! I’ve given my arms quite the workout today. That’s not something I do everyday, so let that show you how serious I am when I tell you to get yourself to the closest bookstore and buy this book so you can snuggle it tenderly tonight.
