Before it happened…
Brynn had a group of best friends, a boyfriend who loved her, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And then…she had none.
After it happened…
Everything was lost. The boy she now knew never loved her. The friends who felt she betrayed their trust. The new life just beginning to grow inside her.
Brynn believes her future is as empty as her body until Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye again…sort of. But letting someone in isn’t as easy as it seems.
Can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?

If you could spend 5 minutes with 18 year old Nyrae what would you be sure to tell her?

You are loved. You are special. Make mistakes because they help you grow as long as you learn from them. You are beautiful.

*wipes away the liquid being expelled from my tear ducts* I think all eighteen year old girls could benefit from hearing this exact words. <3

You have this insanely beautiful ability to pull your readers into a story and make them feel like they too are experiencing the loss your characters are experiencing.  Tell us how Brynn's story came to you.
Oh wow. That’s an awesome compliment. Thank you. With Brynn’s story I just wanted to write something inspiring. I wanted to write a girl who learned the things I needed to learn as a 16 year old girl.
You know what's interesting about this answer? I find inspiration in all of your stories, Nyrae. You're doing it.

What song would you choose to represent one of your favorite scenes in SEARCHING FOR BEAUTIFUL?
This is so hard for me because I rarely listen to music when I write. Okay… the dance scene with Brynn and Christian is actually a real story that happened to me in the seventh grade. The dancing, the crying afterward, the whole thing. The song that I danced with to the boy I “loved” was End of the Road by Boys II Men (aging myself). I imagine that song for Brynn and Christian’s dance. I can’t hear it without thinking about the very special boy with the blue eyes I met in the 7th grade.

One of my favorite memories happened at a 7th grade dance! It didn't involve a love song, though. It involved a long haired ginger welcoming some young girl to the jungle, if you know what I mean.

Tell us what you're working on next.
I am working on a special, little treat. I can say it’s strictly boy POV and I think readers will be excited to see some familiar faces in it.
I think I can speak for the entire universe when I say, "SQUEE! We love Nyrae's boy POV like Christian loves gummy bears!"

Who is your favorite member of One Direction? (This is a new standard question at Fictitious Delicious where we appreciate all things 1D. ;)

Umm… I don’t know. I don’t listen to them. I hear the names Liam and Harry a lot, I think.

Oh, so you're a Liam and Harry fangirl, huh? SUPER!

Tell us about the last book you read that reminded you how fun it is to be a reader.
Openly Straight by Bill Konginsberg.
Aaaaaand I've just added another book to my TBR pile.  This looks so good!

Writing has always been Nyrae Dawn’s passion. There have been times in her life where she wasn’t able to chase that dream the way she desired, but she always found her way back to telling stories.

One of her loves has always been writing about teens. There’s something so fresh and fun about the age that she loves exploring. Her husband says it’s because she doesn’t want to grow up. She doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing and luckily for her, he doesn’t either.

Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. She loves going on emotional journeys with characters whether it be reading or writing. And yes, she’s a total romantic at heart and proud.

Nyrae resides in sunny Southern California with her husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two awesome kids.

When she’s not with her family, you can be pretty sure you’ll find her with a book in her hand or her laptop and an open document in front of her.

She writes for Entangled Publishing, Grand Central Publishing and is self-published.

Nyrae is represented by Jane Dystel of Dystel and Goderich Literary Management.

Nyrae Dawn also writes adult romance under the name Kelley Vitollo.
